Frequently asked questions Hide FAQs
What is the difference between motorcycle jeans and regular jeans?
Motorcycle jeans combine everyday denim styling with riding-specific construction. Depending on the design, this can include abrasion-resistant fabrics, reinforced zones, protective seams, and pockets for knee and hip armor. Regular fashion jeans are not designed or tested as motorcycle protective clothing.
When comparing featured riding jeans, check the materials, garment certification, and included protection rather than judging protection by denim thickness or appearance alone.
Are Alpinestars motorcycle jeans CE certified, and do they include armor?
Certification and armor provision vary by design, so check the specifications for each pair. EN 17092 garment classifications assess protective clothing performance, including abrasion resistance, tear strength, and seam strength. For garments classified A, AA, or AAA, AAA has the most demanding test requirements of those three classes.
Knee and hip impact protectors are assessed separately under EN 1621-1. Confirm which protectors are included, their protection level, and whether compatible hip or knee inserts are available separately. A garment's certification class and its armor level are different ratings.
How should motorcycle riding jeans fit?
Riding jeans should fit securely at the waist and hips without restricting movement or allowing armor to shift excessively. Use the size guide and fit description for your chosen design rather than assuming your usual casual-jeans size will match.
Check the fit while seated in your normal riding position. Knee protectors should remain aligned with your knees, and the legs should maintain coverage at your boots or riding shoes. Where armor-position adjustment is provided, follow the garment instructions to set it correctly.
Are motorcycle jeans suitable for commuting and riding in the rain?
Motorcycle jeans are a practical option for commuting, urban journeys, and everyday road riding when their protection specification suits your needs. Riding-focused denim offers familiar styling off the bike, while stretch and shaped construction, where provided, support movement in the saddle.
Do not assume motorcycle denim is waterproof unless explicitly stated. For wet-weather journeys, consider a suitable outer layer from the motorcycle rain gear collection. For track riding, follow the venue's equipment requirements rather than treating riding jeans as a substitute for race leathers.
How do I wash motorcycle jeans with protective armor?
Follow the garment's care label and remove removable knee and hip protectors before washing. Use only the cleaning method and temperature specified for the jeans; protective denim, reinforcement layers, and stretch fabrics can have different care requirements from ordinary denim.
Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and tumble drying unless expressly permitted. Allow the jeans to dry fully before reinstalling armor, then check that each protector is seated correctly. Inspect seams, protective fabrics, and armor pockets regularly, especially after a slide or impact.
